This backyard cottage is designed to make the most of its 250 square foot footprint. The compact plan features a full kitchen as well as an open living/dining area. A sleeping loft over the kitchen and bathroom nestles in the vaulted roof. The cottage features low-tech sustainable strategies such as windows placed for easy cross ventilation, advanced framing to allow for ease of construction and reduced lumber waste, and operable skylights to allow for stack-effect cooling.
